Ubisense transforms physical spaces into smart spaces, bringing manufacturers proven gains in quality, cost, and productivity. Our SmartSpace platform monitors the physical flow of the factory creating a real-time “digital twin” of the process. This Digital Process Twin provides the deep situational awareness that empowers people to make more insightful decisions, and business systems to operate with foresight and certainty. With offices in the UK, France, Germany, North America, Canada and Japan, Ubisense has more than 900 customers across the globe, and has enabled many to implement their factory digitisation strategies.
About The Assembly Show 2019
The ASSEMBLY Show is focused exclusively on assembly technology equipment and products. Topics are ranging from automated assembly systems and industry 4.0 to robotics and parts feedings. Participants in attendance uncover new resources, experience equipment hands-on, evaluate the latest technologies and products and connect face-to-face with industry experts. The show hosts over 315 exhibitors from around the world.
Ubisense Presentation at The Assembly Show – by Adrian Jennings: How IoT can lead us to look for solutions in all the wrong places
The notion of the Internet of Things can make us mistakenly focus on the things themselves, and cause us to look for the wrong solutions. For example, when critical items (WIP, tools, parts) go missing it’s tempting to focus on the items, conclude the need for an item-finding solution and wonder why the RoI is so disappointing. In truth, it's better to adopt processes in which items cannot go missing in the first place.
In this presentation, Adrian leverages over a decade of digital factory transformation experience to explain why a focus on “things” leads us to try to find solutions that work around problems, rather than adopt transformation that eliminates the possibility of the problems arising in the first place. Using first-hand examples from various digital transformation projects, Adrian highlights the difference between a focus on things, and a focus on process transformation. In each example this change in perspective points to a different class of solutions and creates significantly better and more far-reaching return on investment.
Adrian Jennings, Chief Product Advocate
Adrian Jennings serves as Chief Product Advocate for Ubisense. In this role he acts as a spokesperson, accelerating development and adoption of Ubisense’s SmartSpace platform by working with all stakeholders from initial vision through successful use. He brings the vision of the product to the market, helping evangelise this new category of spatial digitisation platform, and brings the vision of the market to the product, helping Ubisense align around a common goal.
Prior to joining Ubisense Jennings was CTO of Time Domain, a location technology provider for both civilian and military use. He is a recovering rocket scientist, and as designated UK intelligence expert spent three years as a missile consultant with the US Department of Defense. He received a master’s degree in physics from Oxford University and now finds himself bemusedly working for a Cambridge company.
Brad Williams, Director of Sales – North America
Brad Williams serves as the Sales Director for the Americas. In this role he works across key vertical markets with customers and partners to identify how Ubisense products and solutions can meet their manufacturing and operational challenges.
Brad has more than 20 years experience working with manufacturing companies in providing solutions which improved operational process and efficiency in aerospace, defense, automotive and commercial vehicle industries. He is highly adept in learning and working with large organisations, identifying their critical business issues, and aligning his organisations’ resources to deliver solutions to address those critical issues as well as align to key strategies and KPI’s for maximum value creation. Brad’s initial experience began with the role of Project Manager for Stanhope Tool, Inc., a family business that specialised in tool and die equipment manufacturing. His early training incorporated hands-on involvement in the various machining technologies and methods, thereby garnering a thorough understanding of manufacturing process strategy and execution.
Brad received his Marketing and Management Bachelor’s degree from Northwood University.
Casey Riva, Pre-Sales Consultant – North America
Casey Riva has been implementing Ubisense Solutions across the market for the past 8 years. Currently serving as a Pre-Sales Consultant, he brings along his vast product expertise and real-world success stories when advising on new opportunities and applications. Working across the automotive, aerospace, transit, and healthcare industries he has provided unique insight into identifying process issues, improving efficiency and delivering automation with SmartSpace. Casey received his Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from Western Colorado University.

SmartSpace Inbound Logistics Monitor
SmartSpace monitors the location of WIP in the yard, where high volumes of finished and unfinished product are widely dispersed around site, awaiting the next phase in their production lifecycle. Operations teams can now instantly find individual or groups of products, increasing productivity by eliminating search waste.
SmartSpace Production Logistics Monitor
Ubisense monitors the flow of kits and subassemblies in the plant and detects deviations from plan creating a real-time view of status and alerts. Operations teams can now proactively maintain JIT and JIS flow from origin to point of use with the aid of real-time guidance and automatic verification.
SmartSpace Process Control
Ubisense virtualises physical process controls and removes the constraints of traditionally fixed workstations. This frees up planning teams from fixed TAKT times and can better align process design with product complexity. Operational teams can quickly reconfigure and rebalance the line to rapidly react to product and process changes.
SmartSpace Process Monitor
SmartSpace continuously monitors the movement of WIP, tools and equipment throughout the production process, revealing real-world production flow and detecting deviations from plan. This instantaneous view of production reality enables operations teams to proactively optimise productivity and quality, while enabling continuous improvement teams to quickly identify process waste and instability.
SmartSpace Yard Monitor
SmartSpace Yard Monitor helps to solve a range of challenges caused by delays owing to yard audit and search.
SmartSpace Asset Monitor
SmartSpace monitors the location of tools and equipment throughout multiple production sites, where build and test processes are widely dispersed. Operations teams can now instantly find required resources, increasing productivity and decreasing order-to-delivery times by eliminating search waste.
SmartSpace Compliance Monitor
SmartSpace brings multiple different assembly and MRO verification processes together in a reliable, digital build record for complex products and assemblies. With both real-time and digital-ledger capabilities integrated into one platform, operations teams can rely on SmartSpace to immediately identify non-conforming tool, equipment or parts use within their assembly process, while quality and compliance teams gain a digital build record that is unmatched in both detail and reliability.
SmartSpace Tooling Management
SmartSpace continuously monitors the movement of tools and equipment throughout the production process, revealing real-world movements, utilisation and detecting non-compliant use. This real-time view of utilisation enables operations teams to improve productivity by ensuring tools and equipment are optimally distributed and used, non-conformant tools are quarantined and inventory levels are optimised.
Industrial IoT at enterprise scale
SmartSpace is an enterprise platform that uses location and identification from any source to create visibility of real-world objects and their interactions, enabling complex manufacturing processes with high levels of variability to be more flexible, easier to manage and easier to control.
