Ubisense Location Driven Training

Ubisense Location Driven Training

Ubisense LDT brings new levels of automation to Exercise Control (EXCON) and After Action Review (AAR) for better and more cost-effective training.

Ubisense LDT can operate as a standalone system or be embedded into other third-party solutions and delivers improved EXCON and rapid automation of AAR, solving some of the many challenges faced in training in Military Operations on Urban Terrain (MOUT).

How it worksUbisense installs a sensor network throughout the area to be monitored using Ubisense Series 7000 Sensors. All sensors are standard IP based devices connected using standard commercially available network equipment which are monitored and tuned in real-time.

Ubisense Compact (1.5”) Tags are then attached to the shoulder of the participant and are assigned using a quick barcode scan. Tags can also be attached to items such as IED’s or vehicles. When a person or object with an assigned tag enters an area, it is automatically located, shown in the Ubisense 3D environment and the data is passed out through the Ubisense API to other systems such as After Action Review (AAR), camera tracking systems or weapons effects program.

The Ubisense LDT can then be used to visualize the real-time data in 2D or 3D, integrated into video systems and other military training hardware such as target, smoke, audio, and lighting. Ubisense has also been integrated into various After Action Review systems from its partners.

Automated exercise analysisBy knowing the exact location of players, vehicles and weapons in real-time, the Ubisense LDT solution automatically detects and records events relevant to the training exercise. Over 95% of the AAR is generated automatically, saving analysis time and money. Combat-relevant data that can be captured and displayed includes:

  • Player in the line of fire from windows or doors
  • Room clearing speed
  • Hostile area entry / exit metrics
  • Player kills
  • Area weapons effects
  • Bunching and stacking behaviour

Proven COTS technology

The Ubisense LDT uses the same technology proven in demanding environments for customers such as NTC at Fort Irwin, Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Picatinny Arsenal, Cummins, Boeing, BMW and the US Department of Veterans Affairs.
Ubisense solutions operate 24/7 in tough environments across entire plants, tracking thousands of objects and processing thousands of location events per second.

Video optimization
Viewing scenario events from different perspectives is essential to understand what happened and why. During a training exercise less than 1% of the video footage captured has any training value. The Ubisense LDT solution automatically identifies combat-relevant events and cross-references them with the video footage, saving time and cost and resulting in a better AAR. Some of the key video features are:

  • Location-keyed video retrieval: Retrieve video by location, time, event and player.
  • Smart recording management: Record only the video and images relevant to the exercise, reducing network bandwidth, file sizes and data storage costs.
  • Enhanced video content: Video image is automatically annotated with participant names and event details making it easy to identify individual participants involved in the training.
  • Interactive video overlay: An interactive video overlay allows for the review to be driven directly from the video view for faster and more intuitive event control.

Record and playback timeline
A timeline can be shown for each player in the training exercise. This provides a more granular view of an individual’s performance and their location when an event occurred. Data shown on the timeline includes:

  • Combat related events detected by the LDT
  • Kills when integrated into Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System (MILES)
  • The room the player is in and the cameras covering him
  • Physiological data e.g. An individual’s heart rate
  • Color coding scheme for fast force identification

Tiered library architecture
The Ubisense LDT works with any location platform and is available as a standalone solution or as separate libraries for adding enhanced functionality to third-party partner AAR solutions.

Open sensor and device API integration
Ubisense understands that complete solutions require the tight integration of technologies and products from multiple vendors. The Ubisense LDT allows integration with a wide range of sensor networks and devices. Common APIs ensure full compatibility with third-party sensor networks and devices.
