Smallworld 4 Upgrade Planning Service

How the Planning Service WorksWe start by installing a 4.x evaluation system on your site and getting an initial version up and running with the new architecture so you can evaluate its capabilities. We can typically get a basic system working with your database very quickly, and it is our preferred approach to let you do some initial evaluation of the new system capabilities against your own data.

Review of 4.x architectures and key questionsDuring on-site interviews, we’ll work with you to answer the key questions that will determine your upgrade path. We will also review the pros and cons of the three architectures that are available at 4.x. We will review the key questions with you that need to be examined and jointly determine the answers to these questions over the course of the upgrade planning process.

Technical TrainingAssuming that you have internal technical staff involved in developing and maintaining your system, it is important that they have a good understanding of the significant changes to the Smallworld product that are introduced at Smallworld 4. Ubisense has developed its own comprehensive training materials based on our extensive experience working with Smallworld 4.

Calculating Return on InvestmentWe will work with your team to determine the ROI for the different upgrade options available. We will also evaluate the potential benefits of replacing custom code with other GE or third-party solutions.

Review of client codeWe have a range of automated tools that assist in analyzing client source code and estimating upgrade effort based on this analysis

Preparation of project planWe will prepare a detailed project plan for the complete upgrade based on the data collected during the previous work items.

Create and review the upgrade planWe will go through a detailed review of the upgrade plan on site with the client team to ensure full understanding.

Presentation to client managementIf required we can present the plans, including the benefits to be realized from the upgrade and the associated costs.
