DENVER - Nov. 8, 2011 - On November 10, Ubisense’s director of transit, Harry Pappas will speak at the New York Public Transit Association’s (NYPTA) Fall Conference in Sarasota Springs, New York. At the tradeshow, Ubisense will showcase its real-time location system (RTLS) that fully automates transit yard operations, Transit Yard Manager (TYM), and host a virtual bus roadeo in booths #51 and #52.

Pappas will participate on two panel discussions that explore the value of RTLS and discuss use cases that underscore the numerous benefits transit operators are deriving from this location technology. Benefits include decreased human errors due to manual bus finding, reduced search times, improved pullout times and increased fleet availability through reduced maintenance downtime.

Typically, when vehicles are parked in a depot or garage, bus companies have to check each one in and out, manually logging their location on paper. Keeping paper tracking sheets updated all day is a time-consuming process that relies on accurate data input and is prone to human error.

The Ubisense TYM solution automates this entire process using a sensor network and weatherproof tags that are mounted on each vehicle and operate indoors and outside. Positioning data generated by the tags and sensors is converted for display on a detailed, interactive map.
