Business Analyst (Cambridge, UK)

Due to continued growth, we are looking for a talented individual to manage and grow our Utilities customer base in the UK.

The role will be varied and challenging; you will be the point person for all our UK Utilities customers first of all developing and managing the relationship with the customer and understanding their business objectives.  Then helping them understand the opportunity to optimise their Smallworld system requirements, and translating that into statement of works, to ensure that our expert technical team delivers the right services for the customer’s GIS. There is also the requirement to grow and develop the accounts and the market, so sales/pre-sale experience will also be very useful.

Required skills

The successful candidate will be a driven and enthusiastic individual with a strong technical background. Excellent presentation skills and confidence working with customers and peers are essential. The candidate must be comfortable presenting technical topics and product features and benefits to technology enthusiasts as well as to business managers on an individual level and to small and large groups.

  • Technical Knowledge of the Smallworld Product Set
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Utilities experience (Water and/or Electric)

Desired skills

  • Technical knowledge of Internet technologies
  • Experience of the gas industry
  • Experience of other GIS products including MapInfo

Senior Software Engineer (Cambridge, UK)

Following a highly successful 2011 we have opportunities for talented senior software engineers to join our small team working on developing new products/applications into our target markets.

Responsibilities

The successful applicants will be writing software to integrate with various devices and 3rd party systems; designing and writing application software, especially for industrial control applications; contributing to the development of an enterprise-quality software product.

Required skills

As well as strong 'A' level results and a computer sciences or similar degree from a good university you will have:

  • Essential: 2 years' experience of writing multithreaded software
  • Essential: Experience of writing GUI applications
  • Essential: Excellent understanding of computer science
  • Essential: Experience of working in a development team
  • Essential: Some familiarity with CVS, make, shell scripting, Unix
  • Ideally: 2 years' experience of C++ including templates and STL
  • Ideally: Familiarity with C# and .NET 2.0
  • Ideally: Appreciation of electronics and the ability to work with various hardware devices
  • Ideally: Experience of writing graphics, numerical analysis, engineering or similar software

Smallworld GIS Consultants - Senior/Experienced (Cambridge, UK)

Responsibilities

All consultants will be responsible for delivering quality consulting services to our customer base both here and in Europe. 

Depending on your experience and expertise you will be leading or closely involved with customer projects from assisting with proposals, providing technical design and recommendations input to hands-on development support and integration and implementation services.

Smallworld GIS Developers (Cambridge, UK)

Due to continued growth we are expanding our development teams across the globe.  In the Geospatial Division we have a number of opportunities for highly skilled, flexible software engineers to join our Product Development and Customer Project teams creating and delivering our successful products into our customer base.

Responsibilities

Your practical role will be varied and challenging; you will be working closely with our Product and support teams in Cambridge and our worldwide Customer Project development teams collaborating with these teams on requirements, design and implementation, providing technical input and support as required.

The successful candidate will be a driven and enthusiastic individual with a strong technical background and general programming skills.   • Other desirable programming skills such as Java, C++, C# and web technologies

  • Technical documentation.
  • Agile computing and SCRUM method skills would be an advantage.
