Location Tracking – now indoors and outside

Cambridge, 11 December 2009.  Ubisense is pioneering tracking which can operate indoors and outside, using ultra-wide band technology (UWB).  Until now it has not been possible to combine indoor and outside tracking accurately.   Tracking inside buildings or built up environments, has defeated GPS technology, which has difficulty in maintaining a signal in these situations.

Tracking and locating people and objects which are constantly moving is becoming more important to the daily routine of individuals, commercial organisations and the emergency services.

Metro Transit, Minneapolis are successfully using Ubisense solutions to determine the exact position of tagged vehicles as they move in and out of the depot.  Dispatch staff have real-time visualisation of the vehicles for scheduling, maintenance and dispatch.

No environment can be more challenging than that encountered by military personnel entering into theatre within a hostile, urban environment.  Urban combat often involves the warfighter moving in and out of buildings or in streets with buildings and debris on either side.  By tagging personnel, exact locations can be pinpointed and visualised.  Used by the US military within training environments, Ubisense systems provide detailed feedback on the movements and actions of military personnel for after action review.

Ubisense solutions use UWB radio technology, and are designed to respond with sub-second accuracy to location events for any number of people or objects. UWB is more accurate than other radio technologies because of its resistance to signal distortions, which can often be caused by reflections in real-world deployments.
