Enhancing Military Training
As
combat scenarios have moved from the open field to urban environments there is
an increasing demand for effective combat training in new urban situations.
Urban combat training facilities need to encompass a wide variety of settings
including streets, buildings, tunnels and range in size from single rooms to
large sites containing hundreds of buildings and vary from permanent buildings
to mobile MOUT sites.
Implementing
Ubisense in an urban combat training environment can provide many real-time and
after action review benefits for cost effective training. Ubisense can provide precise tracking both
inside buildings and the surrounding perimeter allowing seamless handoff from
GPS tracking to high precision ultra-wideband tracking when GPS is obscured.
Ubisense
can help show a clear real-time 2D and 3D view of all the participants in an
exercise, provide a concise after action review, integrate to other
technologies such as video streams and enhance the safety and realism of training.
Real-time Engagement
Overview
Ubisense
provides a real-time 2D and 3D view of an exercise with easy to use zoom, pan
and jump to a location interface. Ubisense
also allows many multiple views of an area so different people can view
different areas of the exercise at once.
Different
symbols or colors can be used to represent different players and objects and
their status such as active or inactive. Players can be identified on screen
with names or ID's or a user can select their icon for more information.
Alerts
can be raised if a player enters a defined area. For example if a player from
the red team enters building 2 north entrance an alert can be raised.
If
a player wears more than one tag it is also possible to determine the direction
a player is facing or if they are standing, crouching or lying.
After
Action Review
During
an exercise Ubisense makes it possible to detect key events such as kills,
hits, misses, dangerous situations or friendly fire incidents and locate
exactly where and when they occurred. Ubisense
can also integrate to existing vest technologies if they are already in use at
the site.
The
movements of all players involved are stored and can be replayed allowing
thorough analysis and instruction.
By
integrating digital video streams from cameras in known positions, video can be
indexed based on which personnel are in the cameras view. Video streams of a
player at any point in time can be then easily recalled and displayed.
Video
tracking of a player can also be done in real-time with video streams on a
control console switching as a player comes into view. If the cameras have Pan,
Tilt and Zoom (PTZ) controls then they can also be controlled to gain the
optimum shot of the players.
Advanced
Weapons Modeling
By
using Ubisense to track players it is possible to determine the results of
firing high powered weapons through solid objects such as walls or ceilings
which was previously not possible with standard line of sight training weapons.
Area
weapons, such as grenades or improvised explosive devices (IED’s), can be
modeled effectively using a Ubisense Tag. A Tag can be placed inside a
simulated device. The platform will know when the pin is pulled and then the
number of seconds before the device is triggered. The blast can then be modeled
from that location and the players effected calculated and notified. This
technology can increase the realism of the combat situation.
As
Ubisense models and tracks in 3D snipers can also be simulated and alerts
raised when correct precautions are not used when moving passed windows and
openings.
