Ubisense Honoured with Frost & Sullivan Excellence in Technology Award for its Advanced RTLS Technology.
London, UK - 16th October, 2006 - Frost & Sullivan confers the 2006 Excellence in Technology Award in the field of real-time location systems (RTLS) solutions to Ubisense. The company has been chosen for its development of the Ubisense technology platform, an RTLS solution based on ultra wideband (UWB) technology that enables accurate and reliable sensing in diverse environments.
In presenting this award, Frost & Sullivan recognises Ubisense for its outstanding efforts in advancing RTLS systems technology with UWB and its development of innovative products in this domain. These innovations are likely to play a pivotal role in enhancing the capabilities of RTLS solutions in the field of automatic identification technologies.
"With achievable location accuracy in real spaces within 30 cm for 3D location, the Ubisense platform is truly unique," notes Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Ankit A. Shukla. "This capability has not been achieved by alternative RTLS technologies such as radio frequency identification (RFID), global positioning system (GPS) and wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi)."
The Ubisense platform consists of hardware in the form of UWB tags, sensors and proprietary software that supports the rapid development of robust applications. Ubisense tags are compact, battery-powered transmitter devices that are attached to the moving person or object being monitored. The Ubisense sensor is a UWB receiver that is installed at suitable positions within an indoor environment.
Ubisense is in the process of developing several other types of tags for different applications. It is also taking measures to work with existing RTLS solutions providers to complement traditional RTLS solutions.
The precise location accuracy achievable with the Ubisense technology enables unique applications that are not possible with other RTLS solutions. The company has worked with its partners and customers to develop applications for manufacturing and logistics, healthcare, workplace, military, healthcare and hazardous environments.
"This UWB-based technology can also be used to track people in safety-critical environments such as hospitals and nuclear facilities," states Mr. Shukla. "In nuclear facilities, Ubisense's RTLS technology has been integrated with dosimetry to monitor real-time radiation levels according to the exact location of each worker. The technology has proven successful in limiting exposure to nuclear radiation for workers."
The company has established awareness of its technology and the high-accuracy indoor location platform has been deployed by a number of customers. With a $3 million round of funding in the first quarter of 2006, Ubisense has invested in product development and marketing initiatives to expand its ability to meet the precise location tracking needs of its rapidly expanding customer base. Moreover, the merger of Ubisense with Ten Sails, a location technology-consulting firm, has provided a strategic advantage to the company in ensuring steady growth.
Frost & Sullivan's Excellence in Technology Award is bestowed upon a company that has introduced an innovative technology into the market that is expected to bring significant contributions to the industry in terms of adoption, change and competitive posture. It also recognises the company's overall technical excellence and its commitment towards technology innovation.
Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards recognise companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service and strategic product development.
